About Charlyn Too
Charlyn is a versatile music educator specialising in voice and piano, a choral conductor and a contemporary singer-songwriter.
Registered as an AMIS Music and CCA Instructor with Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE), Charlyn holds a Bachelor's Degree in Management from the University of London, and is certified by The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) with a Diploma in Principles of Instrumental Teaching (Piano), trained under Dr. Julian Hellaby, Richard Crozier and Bill Thomson.
Well-versed in classical and contemporary voices, Charlyn has attained an Associate of Trinity College London (ATCL) in Singing (Performance), a classical singing diploma, under veteran Mezzo-soprano, Anna Koor. She is also certified with a Diploma in Popular Music Vocals (Performance) from the London College of Music (LCM), mentored by singer-songwriter, Lin Si Tong.
Charlyn is trained in Encore Music Education (award-winning programme from Australia), enabling her to teach its Kinderbeat and Junior Series from early childhood to young beginners. In addition, Charlyn is coached in conducting skills by award-winning conductor, Dr. Audrey Chung, and serves as a Choral Director and Soprano in her church's choir.
Charlyn currently serves as Choir Conductor at White Sands Primary School and Northshore Primary School. She has also taught at the Singapore Teachers' Academy for the aRts (STAR) and has amassed over two decades of experience teaching across MOE schools, music schools, organisations and her own studio. Her teaching portfolio includes workshops, group classes and individual lessons for music teachers, school choirs, professionals, parents and youths. She is equally experienced in early childhood music education, piano and vocal instruction, choir leadership, and songwriting coaching, delivering lessons in an effective and engaging style.
Beyond classroom teaching, Charlyn has contributed significantly to the broader arts scene. Music has been a big part of Charlyn’s life since her youth. While pursuing her studies, Charlyn was the President and Student Advisor for Singapore Polytechnic’s Chinese Orchestra and Arts Festival. As a Community Outreach Executive with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, she organised educational projects such as Concerts for Children, SSO on Campus, music appreciation workshops, and the production of activity books and CDs.
Charlyn is an Associate Member of the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS) and a competent songwriter fluent in both English and Mandarin lyrics. Her original SG50 songs “There’s No Place Like Home” and “存在的意义”, co-written with Audris Ho, were officially recognised by the SG50 Committee and featured across national platforms including the History Channel 50on50 series, Mediacorp Channel 8 Frontline and various newspapers. These works were also performed at community National Day celebrations. Charlyn has been invited to showcase her original compositions at the Esplanade Concourse “Celebrate December Festival”, where she debuted her song “Because You’re My Friend”. She has also served as a judge for community singing competitions organised by Queenstown Stirling View RC.
Charlyn is available for teaching assignments in piano, voice, choir conducting, and songwriting, as well as workshops and performances, where she seeks to engage and inspire through music.
